Made the switch from chrome to firefox; now, hangouts and some video doesn't work
Hi; i'm wanting to move away from chrome but in firefox, i can't get the 'hangouts' working in gmail, even though i do have the googletalkplugin installed on my pc. One other issue i'm seeing is that, on certain pages, video is not working; in the latest version of chrome, i understand that the flash thing has changed and i suppose that firefox did not change in the same manner. I hesitate in downloading a plugin, as described on the screenshot for fear that it will mess up video in chrome, should i want to use chrome. I'd rather not switch back and forth from firefox to chrome to make phone calls or to watch video. please help.
i had asked help on the hangouts thing before but your suggestion to 'install plugin' was not sufficient so i'm asking for further help on that now. on the video thing, please just say if i should download the plugin and whether or not it will affect playback in chrome. thanks

For Hangouts, you need to install the hangouts plugin. It won't affect chrome at all, and it's necessary to use it in all browsers except chrome.
As for the video issue, it is likely that you don't have Adobe Flash installed. You need to install it from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (uncheck any additional software)
ok i'm getting the flash plugin; thanks. for the hangouts, i do already have the plugin installed yet i still get the prompt to install it. the plugin is indeed installed on my win7 pc and i've restarted the computer...still get the prompt
As a test I installed the plugin and got two. For some reason, they are set to "Never Activate" upon installation, which hides them from websites. (See screenshot)
You can switch them on from the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Scroll down to the grayed area and look for two plugins that start with "Google Talk" and change "Never Activate" to "Always Activate".
Then try reloading the hangout page or starting it again.
