Can't send emails; Thunderbird seems to think addresses are invalid?

more options

When I type in an email address to send email, after a few characters it almost always turns to red text, and the email will appear to send correctly when I am done but no one ever receives it. Sometimes when I click on "write" the email form already displays a red cursor.

It seems to be acting like the email address is invalid? It just started doing this last week. I am now updated to 38.1 and it still does it.

There could be more than one problem here.

First of all, a red address isn't necessarily a reason for sending to fail. It's meant to be a warning that the address as seen in the address box can't be found in your Address Book, but this seems to have been broken for several versions now. BTW, it will go red if you try to put more than one address in a box.

Do you have more than one email address yourself? If so, if you send from one to the other and vice versa you may receive warnings or notifications that might be helpful in understanding what, if anything, has gone wrong. But I can't tell if, beyond the red text, you have any real problems with sending.

I guess the problem then is why isn't it sending emails. I have a gmail and have never had a problem in years of using it and Thunderbird. Now, all of a sudden, I'm afraid to send anything important because it's not working consistently at all.

I'll try sending that way, but the ones that didn't go through seemed to send fine.
