While (SEVERAL TIMES) trying to link to http://www.iii.co.uk/investment/detail?code=cotn:AGQ.L&display=discussion, a UK bulletin board that I have previously successfully visited numerous times in past, a tab hijacking attempt has been happening. My Norton catches & stops. After briefly opening the iii.co.uk.... site, the tab gets redirected to a blank window with message to try again. Copied address of site is: http://www.gosubstitution.com/f/ca/index.html?sid=1754&dv1=ad1751-ca&kw1=ad1751-ca-cl&uuid=781aea6e-5696-49c3-6703-ac477302fc8d Norton log shows the attack was \DEVICE\HARDDISKVOLUME3\PROGRAM FILES(X86)MOZILLA FIREFOX\FIREFOX.EXE

What is wrong with this Firefox.exe?

Thnx Paul Aquilina

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Nothing is wrong with Firefox.exe. The Norton Log is just showing what process the attack was detected on. If you had a similar problem with Google Chrome, the log would show the attack is on chrome.exe.

FredMcD: Adwcleaner uncovered 3 malwares that were hidden in one my registry files. After numerous attempts to remove them - they were stubborn - adw was successful. Notebook is back to properly running without the persistent nuisance of unwanted pop up ads. And the hijacking of my tabs has now stopped. Obviously the malwares were the cause not FireFox.'' My comp knowledge is limited. As a result, I was quite lost as what action was needed & well out of my depth before reading/implementing yr suggestion. Thank you for taking time to guide me. Happy New Year.

Glad to help. BTW;

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
