Firefox issue: When I open it (using Windows 8 ), it always reopens on the last page used, not the home page that is in the settings. This is not after crash or a force quit. This is every time. Little help?

Two other possibilities:

  1. A user.js file may exist in your settings folder that contains the instruction to restore your previous session; or
  2. Firefox might think it crashed, even if that is not apparent to you.

On the first point, this article has the steps to track down and remove any user.js file that is overriding your preferences: How to fix preferences that won't save.

On the second point, you can change how Firefox behaves when resuming after a crash to see whether this is the problem. What you would do is switch from automatically showing previous session tabs to showing a list of tabs. Here's how:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes preference and enter 0 (that's a zero) and click OK.

The next time Firefox starts if you get the screen saying "this is embarrassing" and showing a list of your last session tabs, then the problem is that Firefox is crashing during shutdown.
