Firefox 4 upgrade failed, will not open or let me uninstall it without a computer restart message
I tried to update my Firefox to version 4 last night. When it was complete, it asked me to restart my computer.
After restarting the computer multiple times, I am continuing to get the message when trying to open Firefox.
I also cannot uninstall Firefox using the "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows without the message appearing, nor can I run the installation program again.
No matter what I do -- whether that is restart the computer, try to install the software package again, or uninstall it and start over -- I get this message:
"Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?"
I am on a Windows XP machine.

By the way, I also re-downloaded the older Firefox 3.6.17 installation package and tried to install that over what is currently sitting on my system. I'm getting the same errors.
Someone help me figure out to uninstall Firefox completely so I can start over! Thanks!
hey i had the same problem got it fixed so if someone has this problem. download "unlocker" here : link text go to the directory where firefox is installed (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) use unlocker to delete the folder by right clicking on the folder and selecting unlocker then use the delete action. after that you can just install firefox with no problem. and yes all your bookmarks and everything wil still be there since this is not saved in this directory
