Since the latest update, Firefox shows a white space at the top of all web pages, covering almost half the screen. This includes customisation screens for addons, themes, and also the troubleshooting page. The only page that seems unaffected is Firefox's own settings.

The issue seems linked to the toolbar somehow, as entering fullscreen mode temporarily hides the issue. However, as soon as the cursor moves up far enough to show the tabs and search bar, the white space also reappears. Hiding either the menubar, the bookmarks toolbar, or both did not fix the issue.

Restarting Firefox in troubleshooting mode seemed to help, but I have not managed to find the root cause. These are the things I tried, first one by one and then all at once, with no result:

  • Deactivating addons
  • Switching to system default theme
  • Deleting userChrome.css
  • Clicking "Refresh Firefox..." on the troubleshooting page

Out of curiosity, I tried visiting some websites in fullscreen mode. On more complex sites like youtube, the white space appears from the sides as well, and videos play (there is sound), but they do not appear on the page. Also, attempting to click on the screenshots I uploaded here results in several black (or white, depending on how far up/down I scroll) bars overlaying the screen. The website becomes unresponsive as it is presumably waiting for me to dismiss the screenshot I cannot see, with a button that is not there.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, this also did not solve my issue. The new profile starts up with the bug in its very first window.
