We made some private movies with an older camera and these have the extension MOV. I uploaded them to the site of my wife. One of them:

http://www.aleksandra.nl/temp/BaltissenWianki.MOV

The main problem: when opening it with Firefox, it starts to play immidiatly, but without sound.

A second problem: FF starts the movie without asking me and I would like to change that behavior so that it asks me what to do with this file. I know it should be changed in options but "MOV" is not listed and I have no idea how to add it.

Thank you for you help!

Kind regards, Ruud Baltissen

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page to prevent Firefox from playing media files via the HTML5 media player.

  • media.play-stand-alone = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

I can understand that Firefox doesn't support the codec. But why doesn't FF allow me to store the file? Watching a movie without sound doesn't make sense. Downloading it and watching it with another program, like Internet Explorer does, that at least makes some sense. And no, I'm not a fan of IE but in this case FF let me really down. Kind regards, Ruud Baltissen
