Hello, Since yesterday I have some problems with searching on firefox. Every time I type in the search bar, firefox indicates that it is not a secure connection. I'll get the error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER. The search bar shows google.com as the address. If I than change that to google.nl, (nl stands for Netherlands: my country) he goes to the search page of google.

Example: if I type in the search bar 'mozilla' he normaly goes to https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-ab&q=mozilla+. But no he gives met that error code. When I change the .com in .nl he will just go to the search page from google. https://www.google.nl/search?client=firefox-b-ab&q=mozilla+.

It seems to give me that code only on google and youtube. Because when I go directly to the site of wikipedia I have no trouble but when I type 'wikipeida' in to the search bar he wil give me that error code again.

I have tried many things. Uninstalled the browser, refreshing firefox but nothing seems to works. You are literally my last hope.

Thanks for taking the time to read my problem :) Kind regards, Harmen

What security software do you have?

You can check if there is more detail available about the issuer of the certificate.

  • click the "Advanced" button show more detail
  • click the blue error text (SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER) to show the certificate chain
  • click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste the base64 certificate chain text in a reply

If clicking the blue error text doesn't provide the certificate chain then try these steps to inspect the certificate.

  • open the Servers tab in the Certificate Manager
    • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
      Certificates: View Certificates -> Servers: "Add Exception"
  • paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's Location field

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"

  • click the "View" button and inspect the certificate

You can see detail like the issuer of the certificate and intermediate certificates in the Details tab.

P.S. When I use an other search engine (other than google) like duckduckgo or ecosia than I do not have that problem. So it appears to be only a problem when I have google as my standard search engine.

Bing.com does also not work.
