I'm migrating to Thunderbird (v52.3.0) from webmail using Firefox (v55.0.3).

In a webmail preview on Firefox I can rt-click an object and get a plethora of options unavailable in Thunderbird. (Images attached.) Specifically useful would be...

- View Image
- Zoom Image
- Search Image on TinEye
- View Page Info

As these options are available in Firefox, perhaps a single item "Open email in Browser" would suffice.

I don't know much about mime formatting, or the issues involved. How difficult is this?

Thanks!

Also...

While there is an option to "Open Link in Browser" it is not available for selected text, so if the link is just pasted in "https://support.mozilla.org" the option isn't available.

And...

To search the internet for random words or phrases is a quick and dirty way to extend a dictionary or verify meaning/usage -- "Search DuckDuckGo for selected text".

Oh yeah, off topic, but why can't I set DuckDuckGo as my default search engine?

Please don't interpret my queries as criticism. I'm very impressed by Thunderbird so far. Really great product. Kudos.

To open non-clickable text links in the browser, this add-on may be useful:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/url-link/

DuckDuckGo can be added as a search engine (see picture), and one way is to follow the instructions here.

Thanks sfhowes!

These do look promising, but both add-ons say "not compatible" with my latest Thunderbird version.

Is this typically just indicating no testing has been done, or should I wait for updates?

Yes, there are many add-ons that are compatible with newer versions of TB, despite statements claiming otherwise. I would just go ahead and install it and see if it works - it most often does.

How to install add-ons in TB

more options

Methinks TB has changed some of the Add-on manager features....

In v52.3 there is no search field in the add-on manager (!)

If you select "See All" under "Up and Coming" you can then search. But you cannot apply add-ons deemed to be incompatible!

If you "download anyway", there is no way to apply add-ons from file!

What am I missing? Does this have anything to do with the security standard envoked when I set a master password?

The search box is (rather oddly IMHO) available on all the other addon page's tabs. So select Extensions and search away.

My article, which sfhowes linked to for you, tells you several different ways to install addons, including how to work with downloaded xpi files.
