About a week ago full functionality of Thunderbird was gone.

Issues I have found so far:

1] Thunderbird may or may not launch when I click the icon 2] I can not write a new message 3] double clicking on a folder does not open it ..... i new to open it in a new tab 4] the address book does not open 5] new emails are coming in and that's about it 6] as of right now the program is unusable

I had download an d re-installed the program several times and there is no change, still doesn't work. I am using Windows 10.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rule of thumb: reinstalling Thunderbird (or Firefox) will never fix any issues, since they are most likely caused by an issue in the user data, residing in a folder called a Profile. Since a profile will be reused when uninstalling and reinstalling, the issues will remain and only the program will be reinstalled like before, so unless you are suffering disk issues, all bits, bytes and registry entries will be identical.

There have been reports of Windows 10 users suffering issues that could be solved by disabling Windows Indexing, so can you try disabling it? See here or here to do so. The associated bug is bug 1249056, and any feedback is welcome.
