firefox application failed initialize properly 0xc0000005. I cannot open Firefox.
I have loaded the various malware programs as suggested in a different thread:
Microsoft Safety Scanner MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page) Hitman Pro ESET Online Scanner
This still does not rid me of the error message and so no Firefox. I still use XP

Download Firefox Full Version For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.
• Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox folders by adding .old to them.
Now run the full installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.
Hi and thanks I followed the above but unfortunately the problem persists
Follow these instructions to create a new user profile. Use it as is. Is the problem still there?

Can you attach a screenshot?

- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem
- Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
- Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Apologies for delay in replying, been away. Unfortunately none of the above works. It still comes up with the same 0xc0000005 error message:

I have same problem with WIN XP SP3. I have used FF successfully for many years. Suddenly it won't open with error 0xc0000005, "Application failed to initialize properly. Click on OK to terminate application," I am very frustrated. I have set all Profile to uncheck "Read Only" I even renamed profile *.default ro *.bak with no help. Hope developers can help.
Let's do a full re-install;
Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.
Thank You Fred. It did work, amazingly for me since I had done a full reinstall after removal previously with no help. This time I didn't do a uninstall, just renamed Mozilla folder as suggested and did a scan/clean of my Registry with cc cleaner after reboot. Then did a install for 43.0.1 and it worked.
A normal install may still leave part of the previous program behind. By doing a full install, as above, removes everything.
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support.
Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.
To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
Please report back to say if this helped you!
Thank you.
