I've tried every suggested solution to get Sync back working. What can I do?
I use Firefox Sync on three Macs, all running 10.9 Mavericks & Firefox 25. One device consistently fails to sync for the past week or two, though I've tried all the suggested fixes in sequence.
The last sync had this in its error log:
1383581241080 Sync.Service INFO Logging in user mikey23 1383581241080 Sync.Service DEBUG Caching URLs under storage user base: https://phx-sync463.services.mozilla.com/1.1/mikey23/ 1383581243251 Sync.Service DEBUG verifyLogin failed: App. Quitting JS Stack trace: [email protected]:413 < [email protected]:684 < [email protected]:927 < [email protected]:142 < [email protected]:97 < [email protected]:71 < [email protected]:938 < @service.js:1175 < [email protected]:71 < [email protected]:1171 1383581243251 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.login: success.login => error.login.reason.network 1383581243251 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.service: success.status_ok => error.login.failed 1383581243252 Sync.SyncScheduler DEBUG Clearing sync triggers and the global score. 1383581243252 Sync.SyncScheduler DEBUG Next sync in 90000 ms.
I see a previous attempt had many repeating items like the below:
1383555407786 Sync.SyncScheduler DEBUG Global Score threshold hit, triggering sync. 1383555407818 Sync.Service DEBUG User-Agent: Firefox/25.0 FxSync/1.27.0.20131025151332. 1383555407818 Sync.Service INFO Starting sync at 2013-11-04 08:56:47 1383555407818 Sync.Service DEBUG Exception: Could not acquire lock. Label: "service.js: sync". No traceback available 1383555407818 Sync.Service INFO Cannot start sync: already syncing?

Can you reinstall Firefox (will not delete profile with data such as addons).
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard, if there is one.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
Thanks so much for the replies. I tried the new profile method first and it seems to work but I'm a bit wary of an old issue that I see returning - adding or moving bookmarks seems terribly laggy. I remember this starting shortly before my sync issue started. Could there be a corruption in my bookmarks db?
My other suspicion is a buggy addon - I'm going to experiment with disabling these in turn. Many thanks again for the advice.
