How do I disable images and javascript in FF 23? It's no longer under 'content'
I just updated to FF 23. When I clicked on options>content> there is no longer a " Load images automatically" nor an "Enable JavaScript" option. I need to switch back-and-forth frequently throughout the day for both of these options in order for my computer not to slowdown considerably--if not outright freeze--especially when accessing certain image-heavy sites, etc.
Where are these options now located, or do they exist at all now? If not they MUST be re-established for me to continue to use this browser.

hello, you can use an addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava to quickly toggle those settings.
this blog post describes the reasoning behind the decision to remove those options from the primary user interface: http://limi.net/checkboxes-that-kill/

@ philipp:
Thanks for your quick response. But I am unable to open the url:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava
I get this message:
The connection has timed out
The server at addons.mozilla.org is taking too long to respond.
maybe try accessing the site a little later again - there have been some server issues with addons.mozilla.org today: http://status.mozilla.com/11627/141985/addons.mozilla.org

thanks again. I tried the link again after waiting a few hours and was able to install the java disabling add-on (quickjava). It works quite well,. Thanks for suggesting it.
Also I installed imageblock prior to that to stop automatic image loading and that also works well!
It’s very annoying, that firefox remove the javascript option, and image options in contents.
I occasionally find it useful to temporary turn off javascript.
I think I was also blocking urls in images.
I am very seriously considering going back to firefox 22.
See:
- Tab Permissions: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-permissions/
- QuickJava: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava/
i find it annoying that i can't turn off my images anymore, i'm on a data limited connection and sites like facebook i need to turn off the images. please reimplement these options.
Seriously--if you're like me and really need the javascript and images disabled on an on-and-off basis, then go with the quickjava which lets you turn off the following right from the browser toolbar so it's even more convenient imo than opening options>content>etc (noting this causes you not to be able to use any tabs while doing so--you just toggle back and forth by clicking the icons).
- Java
- Javascript
- Flash
- Images
You drag the icons you want to use to the toolbar and click on the ones you want disabled. I had 'imageblock' installed after FF23 was released to disable images, and that works well, so I'm staying with that for now, but quickjava also has an image option.
There might be more as well--as I said I use 'imageblock' add-on for the images, but use 'quickjava' to disable/re-enable java, javascript and flash. It works perfectly.
These features exist in most other browsers like chrome and IE so why is it that just firefox became the victim of the so called (ridiculous) "reasoning" given at : http://limi.net/checkboxes-that-kill/ ?
- IMHO,The best you can do is provide a warning just below these checkboxes to make sure the user knows what he's doing.
- Besides, how many times have you received a complaint that says javascript is broken and the problem was that the user had disabled js?
- If you ask me, a user who is likely to misuse such options, usually never tinkers with settings other than changing his homepage.
Please seriously consider reverting this change. Sincerely from someone who has loved firefox ever since v2.0.

java
now the line that says javascript.enabled change the value to true or false depending on what you want. True turns javascript on and false turns if off.
disabling the ability to turn off javascript is not about safety as they claim to be (it's actually much, much more dangerous to have javascript turned on),
it's all about retrieving information about YOU,
personally I'm seriously leaving Firefox altogether, this is BS
Hi sketch21, if you are concerned about JavaScript, you should use the NoScript extension. It allows you to trust individual sites to run scripts while keeping the scripts from other sites disabled.
The native on/off setting could be helpful for troubleshooting, but makes most of the web unusable, so it's hard to imagine it being used for a lot of daily browsing.
Edit: As noted in earlier posts, the on/off setting is still available, but doesn't have a checkbox in the Options dialog.

1) The link provided doesn't work. So the problem is not "solved".
2) The reasoning provided ignores the millions of users around the globe who still depend on slow or capped connections and who can benefit from easily disabling images and/or javascript.
3) FAIL

Hi Sempronio, is this the link doesn't work for you: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickjava
That server will redirect based on the language preference of your browser. If your Firefox is set to block redirects, that could explain the problem. I'm not sure what is your preferred language, but you could try the U.S. English page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/quickjava/
