Why can I not access Yahoo when I can access any other website?
I can access Yahoo finance and Yahoo mail, but I cannot access Yahoo.com.

Hey sreiner1995,
I'm not sure what version of McAfee you have, but I'm going to assume you have McAfee SecurityCenter version: 11.6 (what I'm using).
Open McAfee SecurityCenter > Web and Email Protection > Firewall > Internet Connections for Progams > Scroll and look for Firefox > Click on Firefox so it is highlighted > Click Edit > Turn Net Guard off > Save
That should do it.

Do you get an error that the page is not found, or is the page empty, or ??
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
(2) Remove your yahoo.com cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Hey jscher2000,
I'm having the same problem as sreiner1995. Whenever I try visiting www.yahoo.com, Firefox tells me it can't establish a connection to the sever at www.yahoo.com. I have tried your suggestions of bypassing Firefox's cache, using ctrl + shift + r, clearing Firefox's cache, and removing all Yahoo cookies per your methods described, and have tried reloading the page, for which it still does not work.
Interestingly enough, I can access news.yahoo.com and finance.yahoo.com with no problems at all. I have also tried resetting Firefox, and that hasn't worked either. Do you have any more suggestions?

Hi choasz, my next thought is that an add-on might be interfering with your access. A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode (Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If you can get to the site normally, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
Any change?

You can try to reset (power off/on) the router.
Also make sure that your security software isn't blocking websites.
Starting Firefox in Safe Mode hasn't worked either. I still can't access www.yahoo.com, yet I can still visit news.yahoo.com and finance.yahoo.com.
Hey cor-el,
It turns out it was my antivirus software preventing me from accessing www.yahoo.com. I have McAfee, and all I had to do was to turn off Net Guard for Firefox. I've had McAfee for over a year now, and this has never been a problem. I guess we can consider my problem fixed. Thanks to jscher2000 for the suggestions as well.
You seem to have identified the problem I have. How did you turn off Netguard on Firefox? Thanks.

Choasz,
Thanks. I followed you suggestion; turned off Net Guard; and the problem is solved.
I have Norton Security but I cannot get into Yahoo.com with any of these suggestions. I have installed Firefox 17 which was suppose to be a Yahoo fix and do not understand why only Yahoo is blocked. I can use all of my other search engines to get into Yahoo, but not Firefox. Does Firefox deliberately block access?
No error mess nothing, just dead and locked when I try to get into Yahoo.com.
