When pasting formatted text (RTF text from Word) into a textbox on a website, such as reviews, the text will be displayed as non-formatted, i.e. bold text is gone, paragraphs are gone. Text is displayed as one long sentence.

I need to revert to IE to be able to past the text in the proper format.

Vainly tried to find a solution for this.

Hi,

You can try to reset Firefox and check first before installing/customizing.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Thanks.

Well, I was hoping for an 'easy' about config setting. Frankly, I donot know whether resetting will help and am not really eager to go thru all the steps of reconfiguring FF right now. So, I think I'll drop this matter and will will continue to use IE9 for this specific task.

That aside - have discovered that some sites donot work properly within FF (extremely slow, waiting for a minute or so to open). For those sites, I also switch to IE. It may have something to do with some installed add-ons, like Adblock Plus, I don't know.

Anyway, I will continue to use the best of 'both worlds'.

Oh, btw, here an example of what I meant with "lost formatting".

Thanks again. =

Not sure about particular sites, but generally it seems to be flawless. You could try to make exceptions for the site/sites in Adblock Plus and other add-ons and check.

You can also try to check in a new profile before trying the reset.

Profiles Howto

Profile Manager

Profile Folder & Files

Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Copy all to clipboard and paste (with or without paste options) into Word/LibreOffice/OpenOffice, would also be a helpful reference for a quick replication of the previous state/settings/profile.

Firefox can probably only retain such formatting if it is placed as HTML code on the clipboard and if you paste it in a rich text editor window.

Maybe try the workaround mentioned in comment 22:

  • bug 714115 - CF_HTML Bug when pasting from Word and Excel if you use a , instead of . for your decimal point

(please do not comment in bug reports)

Okay, thanks to you all, I will continue to use IE for these purposes.

Thing is: sometimes (=mostly) I forget and only after the preview and the wrapped text I remember I should have started IE, so I have to start over with copy/paste/edit, etc.

Anyway ..

Thanks =
