Here are two examples (among endless examples): 1. When entering the url, "www.cnn.com" (or just "cnn.com"), the website looks for advertising as "...cdn.turner.com" and then asks if I want the International or US version of the site. 2. Any time a Facebook app is loaded into a site, the website looks at "fbcdn.com".

I wouldn't care about this except that many advertising tools seem to use certain advertising services that are specifically directed toward this situation and it can take a really long time for web pages to load because they are looking for advertising that is for Canadian machines located in the US.

Delete cookies for a single site ------- Delete Cookies for sites that are causing problems

IF you want to Block Ads altogether, use this add-on - Adblock Plus 1.3.9

Check and tell if its working.

Thanks for the input.

Others have suggested these as solutions and I have tried them. Unfortunately, neither works.

I can, for instance, use CCleaner to remove all cookies immediately prior to opening Firefox to a blank home page and enter, for instance, cnn.com as the first url. It immediately uses the Canadian version "cdn.turner.com" as a set-up for all ads to follow. Further, I use the setting that removes all cookies at the end of a browser session.

As I'm sure you know, many sites will not load home pages without loading advertising first and AdBlock prevents that. This makes using AdBlock unhelpful.

Without trying to step out in front of experts, I wonder if there isn't a registry entry that sets the machine to "Canada" and when queried Firefox responds with information relating to that.

You can try to change the Location Settings on the websites that are causing problems. Also do this:

-> click Firefox button and click Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History" -> REMOVE Checkmark from Permanent Private Browsing mode -> place Checkmarks on:

1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search and Form History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> click Exceptions... button and click Remove All button -> Now type the addresses of the websites on which you want to Allow Cookies to be stored e.g. cnn.com , msn.com , yahoo.com , google.com , etc. -> click Allow for each, One by One 4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> Keep Until : select They Expire

-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES

-> click Firefox button and click Options -> Advanced -> General -> Remove Checkmark from Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page -> Click OK

-> Go to the website you wish to Allow from setting Cookies in Firefox

  • Right-click empty space within the page and click View Page Info
  • In the Page Info window, select the Permissions panel
  • Under Set Cookies, place Checkmark on Use Default and Change the setting to Allow
  • Under Share Location, place Checkmark on Always Ask and Change the setting to Allow
  • Close the Page Info window

-> Restart Firefox

Check and tell if its working.

-> When you use Clear Recent History feature, DO NOT select Cookies, Forms and Search History, Active Logins, Site Preferences

-> If you use Privacy Cleanup softwares like CCleaner, DON'T SELECT FIREFOX IN ITS SETTINGS. These softwares can be responsible for Deleting your Firefox Settings.
