When I went to collect eggs from a collecting site (listed below), after opening a tab by clicking on an egg link and then refreshing the page I just opened the tab from with F5, the process, if repeated 4-5 times would lead to the page I'm opening tabs from no longer refreshing by any means (it's not even trying to refresh)--not by F5, control + R, right click refresh or the refresh button on the tool bar. This problem is not happening on any other site that I can tell, but this collection site is the only on where I am rapidly opening tabs and refreshing a page at the same time. I have cleared my cache & cookies, tried turning off add-ons, posted on the site's forums to see if there have been any issues today (there haven't), rebooted my computer, restarted Firefox, made sure all add-ons (I only use 3: Adblock Plus, ForecastFox and McAfee SiteAdvisor) and Firefox itself was updated and even installed the release candidate for Firefox 4 to see if that would help. Nothing did.

Those extensions can still cause problems, even if updated to the latest version.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks cor-el! I'm not sure why manually switching off the add-ons didn't catch it, but when I tried things in Safe Mode, the problem vanished. A little tinkering around and it seems like the McAfee add-on was the one causing the issue. I've shut it off now since I really don't need it and all seems well.

Thanks again! :)
