How can I get my MacOS Contacts to be used in the Thunderbird Address Book?

I don't wish to Export and then Import (that creates duplicates). I just want them to synchronise with each other, so I have one set of Contacts.

They are only available as a read only arrangement due to some security decisions Apple have made.
