How to update FF from ESR - without losing my current addons
My MAIN concern is to NOT lose the ability to have VERTICAL tabs - with Tab Kit 2nd.
Not sure how/why but my computers have FF 45.9.0 ESR - and it reads "up to date"
How do I upgrade to 53.0.2 without losing my current addons?
OS: Windows 10/64
I did upgrade FF on one computer (to 53.0.2) and was able to keep the addons.
Tried it on another computer and Tab Kit 2nd didn't work ;(
so, i removed the FF upgrade...
ANY suggestions will be gratefully accepted
Thank you Karen

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;
Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And at least one folder in the profile of each user on the computer.
If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be affected.
Update Firefox
Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar. Then Help > About Firefox will tell you what version have. WARNING: and install any updates.
Do you want to stick with ESR or switch to the regular release?? There is an ESR of Firefox 52 here: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/
There was a long delay in getting the extension updated for Firefox 52, but it appears to be fixed now. I did see a reference to problems with the video player on Youtube (in Firefox 52.1.1esr) where you have to double-click when a click is ignored, but it's not clear this is caused by this extension alone or in combination with something else. See: https://github.com/tabkit/tabkit2/iss.../131#issuecomment-300885142.
You might also check out a different solution for vertical tabs called Tab Center:

Thank you so much for your detailed response and questions.
I am not quite sure how or why I ended up with ESR and I'm not married to keeping it...
I guess I actually have two concerns...
One is the Vertical tab bar... It's priority one.. don't even care who it comes from - though I do really appreciate Pikachu... very awesome person.
Second is having LastPass working - which it's not been doing for the past week - LP wrote to me saying that their system was not seeing LP in my browser?
I'm willing to try anything - just about ;) - to make these two things work in my favourite browser
Thank you many bunches for your help
jscher2000, thank you so very much for your help
I had tried to update to the latest FF and TabKit 2nd didn't work so I uninstalled it.
Went to FileHippo.com and downloaded 49.0 FF and installed it... and BOTH TabKit 2nd AND LastPass work ....
so, I know it's not the latest FF... but, the important (to me) features work now...
I greatly appreciate your help
Karen
Well, I spoke too soon...
This version of FF is HORRIBLE...
so incredibly unresponsive...
I have to repeatedly click on things to get a reaction... which resizes the browser and moves it all over the place...
Now, LastPass is filling the forms... however, it takes forever to be able to click on the login to get into a site...
This is NUTS...
Any other suggestions??
thank you so much
Karen
Hi Karen, please don't use unofficial download sites for Firefox. If you do not want the Firefox 52 ESR version that I linked above, you can get any installer you like using the link in this article: Install an older version of Firefox.
What version are you using right now that has problems?
I commented on LastPass in your other thread:
What's wrong with FileHippo.com for downloading FF?
And, thank you for the link for older versions... didn't know about this one :)
Thanks
Karen

Would you please take a look at this :
https://www.quora.com/Is-it-safe-to-download-softwares-from-Filehippo-com
Mozilla.org downloads contain Only the program installer. No extras. A download from anywhere else may be bugged or have extras you don't want.
It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.
You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.
You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.
From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.
I thoroughly understand that... and, that's why I only use FileHippo ... they do not add crap to the downloaders... they are good people...
and, now that I have the link provided here, I will use it for older versions...
Can you tell me why the same addons on the same FireFox version on Windows 10/64 would behave differently on different computers?
I have FF 53.0.2 - 32 bit version - installed on all of my computers now..
They each have exactly the same Adonis...yet, Tab Kit 2nd won't work on two of them (fine on the other two)????
Each type of computer system is different, Mac Microsoft, Linux . . . . . Even within Microsoft; Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 . . . . .
Some commands/programs work in many systems, others only a few.
It can make a difference whether multi-process is enabled or disabled. You can see that on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page (Multiprocess Windows).
