I need Thunderbird lightning to show me today and the next 6 days instead of the current week starting from a fixed day and I can't find the option anywhere.

I can't find any option that allows me to use "today" as the starting day; they only give me the option of choosing a fixed day (any, but fixed).

That would be because weeks start on a fixed day of the week. I had assumed your description was faulty originally.

That might well be the case, but I'm not really interested in visualizing a mix of past/future appointments according to a proper definition of a week. I want to be able to see in the same place what I have to do that day and the following couple of days, and I find it hard to believe that I am the only one who would prefer this as a more practical visual aid. Can't this be done with Thunderbird/lightning?

There might be an add-on that can modify Lightning. I really don't know. Perhaps you could check. See https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/search/?q=week+view&cat=1%2C0&appver=any&platform=all

I understand the literal sense of the sentence, but I already told you that it doesn't tell me a way of doing what I need nor directly tells me that it can't be done, so I don't understand why you keep stating it like that. Do you disagree with how I framed the title of the question and want me to edit or re-ask it?

None of the add-ons I've seen (in the list you copied or searching others) seem to able to do this. Also, I would much rather find a way to do it with functions integrated with the base program (if there was no other way I could try with an add-on).

No you can not do that. There you go!
