A few days ago Thunderbird stopped syncing my Godaddy imap email inbox. It syncs once upon restart and that's it. Tried it on multiple computers - same issue. In order to get new email - I have to restart Thunderbird. Oddly enough - it odes sync other folders (sent, draft etc.)

The same email works fine on Outlook. So this must be a Thunderbird issue.

Also - Thunderbird does handle Gmail imap email Ok - no problem there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi - at least 3 others are having the same issue -

I have it too. New messages will not download until I quit TB and restart. Odd thing is, if I mark a message as 'unread' in TB, it appears as unread in Webmail - so some sort of communication is still happening.

FYI - I downgraded back to v37 and it works fine - so something in TB38 is the culprit. Of course, I now have the Timeout messages when sending that plagued TB37...

It would appear Godaddy may have actually addressed their issue.

Our analysis is godaddy had/has an issue with their server software not actually delivering the mail it had said was here.

See the information in This bug for details.

I run two computers, a desktop and a laptop, both running Win 7 64bit Home Premium. On my Win 7 64bit desktop, have made no changes to my Tbird settings, but yesterday (April 7) the Inbox suddenly stopped working in mid-morning (around 10) and I can no longer receive mail. A message pops up and says Tbird can no longer connect to my IMAP server, and that I might have too many IMAP connections and should go into IMAP advanced server settings to reduce the number of server connections (the message vanishes very quickly before I can read it fully.). If I send a message to myself through Tbird I get a response saying “There was an error saving the message to Sent. Retry?” Retrying does no good, of course, but the message does get delivered from Tbird to myOutlook app.

I have tried rebooting, and have tried updating Tbird (now running 38.7.2) and have disabled add-ons, all with no luck. In mid-afternoon April 7, I started my laptop, and had identical problems. If I go into my email via Firefox on the Outlook Web App, I have no trouble getting new mail or sending mail on either machine.

Under Advanced Server settings, I have reduced the max number of server connections to cash down from 5 to 2. That made no difference. I don’t know whether I should be making any other changes in the Advanced menu? At present, a) IMAP Server directory box is blank b) the three boxes below that are all checked c) below that, Personal Namespace has within it ** (two asterisks) d) the other boxes -- Public (shared) and Other Users are both blank

Since the IMAP server seems to be working fine with the Outlook App, and since both my computers have the same problem with Thunderbird, I think that’s evidence that the problem lies with the Thunderbird program itself, rather than in my computers. Is that correct?

After roughly a 24 hour lapse, Thunderbird with its inbox started working again. It stopped working at roughly 10 AM EST on April 7; was not working at 9 AM on April 8; when I tried again at 11 AM it had come back. Why? not the foggiest idea. Did someone at HQ fix Tbird 38.7.2?

It will make me more careful in keeping up to date restore points in the future.
