All of a sudden, I cannot open my Thunderbird email accounts. There go my address books. Beginning to panic. The only thing I seem to have left is the desktop icon. How can I restore? This is critical as I have folders that are very critical to me. I have not tried system restore yet. I simply tried to access my email this afternoon and NOTHING related to Thunderbird happened.

Well, Thunderbird just disappeared, except for the desktop icon. I don't know how it happened. After I sent my question, I decided to do a system restore on my Windows 10 PC. Lo and behold, it worked. Thunderbird is back and all is well. Thanks. While I don't know why it died, since I was able to resurrect it via restore, I consider the problem solved and hope it doesn't scare me again.

I suggest you make backups then and not rely on restore points.
