My new laptop came with Windows 10 and has the the latest Intel HD drivers. When watching YouTube videos in Firefox, the screen would get all fuzzy and display green artifacts for about a second every few minutes. It happens both in full screen and in windowed mode. A couple of times, the entire browser would turn to black and I would get a warning sign in the taks bar (can't click on it, no message, but I believe it's the flash player)

I have also noticed another change compared to my other Windows 8 machine - when clicking the full screen button on a YouTube video, the screen would fade to black before turning on the video. On Windows 8 it just switched it automatically.

So I thought it may be a driver/Windows 10 issue. However, I tested watching videos in Chrome and IE - no glitches, no freezing. Full screen switching in YouTube is immediate - as it is on my other computer. Any idea what is happening here? It's probably a combination of Windows 10/Firefox/Flash/DPI scaling that is messing it up. But why are the other browsers working fine?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Turning off hardware acceleration seems to work. The downside is that 1080p videos no longer play smooth. Again, Chrome doesn't seem to have that problem - everything plays smoothly and nothing crashes.
