I recently did a clean install of Win 7 SP1 and re-installed lots of programs. I have used REVO uninstall pro to do a deep removal and re-installed Thunderbird 38. I've run the chrome://pippkicontent/resetpassword.xul. I've been successful using my same pw for years now including my login to Netzero web site. When I startup Thunderbird, I type in the pw, requested and it accepts it for sending mail and when I type in the same pw, it sends mail. When I exit Thunderbird and start it up again, it wants my pw again. I've tried setting to "Normal Password" and "Encrypted password" and restarted Thunderbird and restarted and reinstalled..... I have uninstalled and re-installed and made sure the security boxes are unchecked for saving pw and master pw. I have removed all cookies. Regedit shows lots of mozilla and thunderbird entries still remaining after deep uninstalls. I dare not delete regedit entries on my own, yet. Any ideas before I divorce Mozilla?

"Firefox"?

If you tell it not to store passwords then it has to ask you for them every time you start it.

I believe that Thunderbird doesn't itself use the Windows registry. I suspect Windows is using it to tie Thunderbird in, to make it the default email client, for instance.

Now if you have "made sure the security boxes are unchecked for saving pw" then why would you expect it to not ask you for the password?

Did you really mean unchecked?

Sorry, if not good write. Start Mozilla Firefox, open Menu (horizontal bars), click Options, Click Security (left side), and see the two boxes labeled: Remember passwords for sites and Use a Master Password. Unchecked is my choice. Your comment about Windows is .... linking to Thunderbird may be a possible place to investigate. Sadly, I don't have the skills. I'm waiting for more suggestions......

YES, outstanding solution. I had it backwards. I put a check-mark ON for Thunderbird to "Remember passwords for sites". I choose NOT to use Master Password. Works great.
