Whenever I open *.swf file from local storage FF asks me to download it instead of opening the file in the browser.

I'm using

  • Firefox: 38.0
  • Linux Mint: 17.1 XFCE x64
  • Flash player: 11.2.202.460

PS. I'm able to browse online website contains of flash controls. My Firefox seccufully passed this test: http://flashbuilder.eu/flash-player-version.html

On Linux you normally also have a standalone Flash player that you can use to play SWF files. You can check this in the software management of your Linux distribution.

You can try to rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

I definitely don't want to use a standalone player because I asked Firefox community. klash a fine KDE player but I can't reliable on it because it shows some *.swf files strangely.

I'm looking for a solution to this issue under Firefox as it works fine under Firefox Windows while not under Firefox Linux

BTW, Chromium works fine while Firefox doesn't
