I want to access facebook and now Firefox won't let me on it and it is unacceptable because it does not give me the option to continue anyway.

I think that this is unacceptable. I have accessed this site for years and now all of a sudden it won't let me. It doesn't even give me the option to continue because I understand the risks. I want access to my site and I think that you blocking it is unreasonable. Firefox didn't block this site until I reset Firefox because it wasn't loading sites and I've had one problem after another with Firefox. I would like this fixed.

When you Reset Firefox, you lose some settings files, including previously stored certificates. It might be possible to recover those files, but could we investigate a bit further first?

A security certificate error can have several causes, including:

  • Computer date, time, or time zone not accurate
  • Firefox not set up to work with security software that filters your secure connections (e.g., Kaspersky, ESET, BitDefender)
  • Malware infection

Couple questions:

(1) What is the description of the error from the "Technical Details" section of the page?

(2) When you visit Facebook in another browser, if you click the padlock icon in the address bar and view the certificate, what shows in the "Issued by" or "Issuer" section? I have attached a screen shot of what I see currently for the facebook.com login page.

www.facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

Facebook does open on other browsers

I was not able to find the "padlock" thing but the first part i just posted was the technical details

Hi Kalisa, I have attached screen shots from IE11 showing the position of the padlock icon in the address bar and what I see when I use that icon to view the certificate. Does yours show the same Issuer?

You can try to copy the cert8.db file from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

No, in internet explorer and google chrome that "issuer statement" does not show up. I can see it but I can't click on it

You can go to the Details pane to check the issuer in the certificate viewer.

Hi Kalisa, sorry if the red circles were misleading. You do not need to click the issuer name, just make a note of what it is, or take a screen shot of it.
