How do I get Firefox 30.0 to play "The Daily Show" videos? It plays all other website videos.. Firefox 25 used to play the videos and then stopped so I installed Firefox 30. but it won't load and play the videos either. I can go to other web sites like net flix and play the "Daily Show" videos perfectly through them.

Is there an error message? What do you get where the video normally appears?

In case you haven't run through "the usual" yet:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?

I tried all that you suggested with no good results. I only have one plugin Shockwave Flash 14.0.0.145. When trying to play the video I get a dark grayed out rectangle that dimly shows a map of the world that just sits there after loading.

The plug in does not seem to be the problem. I get no error messages.

I see that map, then black, then an ad. I assume you aren't blocking ads (in Safe Mode, any ad blocking extensions are deactivated) or if you are, you could try creating an exception for the site.

Thanks for your suggestions but nothing has worked. I did install Google chrome and it works fine. I guess I'll fix firefox later.
