Proxy setting will not stay when I shut down
Everytime I open Firefox 5.0.1 for Windows XP, the proxy setting keep defaulting to Manual Proxy configuration, which makes it unable to connect to the internet. I go into Tools/Options/Network/Connection/Setting & change it. But when I shut down Firefox, it keeps defaulting to the Manual.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Could you post a detailed way of fixing my problem.

Guess what! It didn't work. So you want to spell it out for me?
-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted/Incompatible Toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> Time range to clear: select "EVERYTHING" -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on Cookies, Cache -> click Clear Now
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> in Startup section click Reset to Default button
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Remember History"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Offline Storage (Cache): click Clear Now button
Use the setting that works, and keep it Permanent:
1) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click Settings... button infront of Connection -> select option1 -> click OK
2) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click Settings... button infront of Connection -> select option2 -> click OK
3) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click Settings... button infront of Connection -> select option3 -> click OK
Check which solution works.
-> Click OK on Options window
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Extensions (Add-ons)
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Appearance section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Themes (Persona)
-> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons and Themes later. Check and tell if its working.

From your directions, it's not giving me a choice to do the following:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted/Incompatible Toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Extensions (Add-ons)
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Appearance section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Themes (Persona)
I'm running Firefox 5.0.1
-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> open View Menu -> Toolbars section -> Remove Checkmarks from external (add-ons) toolbars that you don't want Firefox to show with your MenuBar and Location Toolbar
-> open Tools Menu -> click Add-ons -> Add-ons Manager tab will open -> click Extensions section at the left -> Remove All (one by one) the Add-ons or Extensions which:
1) shows the Status that they are Incompatible with your Firefox version
2) you think are Unwanted (never used)
3) are Suspicious and were installed even though you don't remember installing them (which means they were installed without your Authentication, they might be causing Malfunctioning with your Firefox)
-> click the Restart Firefox button when you Remove ONE Add-on
-> open Tools Menu -> click Add-ons -> Add-ons Manager tab will open -> click Appearance section at the left -> Remove All (one by one) the Themes or Personas which:
1) shows the Status that they are Incompatible with your Firefox version
2) you think are Unwanted (never used)
3) are Suspicious and were installed even though you don't Remember installing them (which means they were installed without your Authentication, they might be causing Malfunctioning with your Firefox)
-> click the Restart Firefox button when you Remove ONE Add-on
Hope you understood it now. Check and tell if its working.
