After the most recent update, my Firefox browser begins to hang intermittently with "Not Responding". I have checked the extensions and plug-in like Java, all of them are the latest updated ones. Everytime I open a new site or click on links to load another page, it happens. Every single time.

Firefox 3.6.6 fixed the hanging problem for me. Version 3.6.7 brought it back.  :-(

Try this.. it worked for me first make sure you update Shockwave Flash plugin. 1. disable the plugin under the tools/ add-on menu. 2. Close Firefox 3. Open Firefox 4. Enable Shockwave Flash 5.(may not be necessary, but I did this) Close and reopen Firefox.

I did this about an hour ago and it stopped hanging up.

Good luck

This went on for about a month, mini pauses every 10 seconds or so. So I switched to Google Chrome and haven't had a single pause.

Firefox, you were good to me for the first part of this millennium but you have failed to keep up with the times, so it's astalavista baby.

Time to move on.

Referred to Gib's suggested solution, Firefox 3.6.7 lag issue has been resolved on my computer.

1. > Tools > Add-ons > Disabled *all* Extensions and Plugins. 2. Restart Firefox 3. > Tools > Add-ons > Check if *all* Extensions and Plugins were disabled. Repeat Step 1. if necessary.

I'm unable to disable some Plugins, such as Java Development Toolkit (NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java...) plugin (filename: npdeploytk.dll) Oct 11, 2009 (Version 6.0.170.4) 401KB in size, under C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

I have to delete the dll file manually.

Uninstall plugins manual procedures - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+plugins

I'm not sure if this is something related to US-CERT Vulnerability Note VU#886582 http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/886582

I have given up. Thanks for all who shared that you guys are facing the same problem. Hence, I have set Google Chrome as my default browser. In 10 minutes, I had every plugin I need installed in Chrome. It helped that Chrome allowed me to import all my bookmarks etc directly from Firefox. I have been having fun for the past one day with Chrome. As for Firefox, pending uninstallation and deletion perhaps.

A product that requires me to spend more time setting up than enjoying is a lousy product. Unfortunately, the years of 'relationship' with Mozilla has to end. And, Mozilla has nobody to blame except itself.

Heres the solution - wave goodbye to good ol Firefox until they fix it as its happening all too frequently for too many people. Actually many firefox developers themselves waved goodbye and left Mozilla to help with Google Chrome so theres a start. Please please people at Mozilla, let us know if you fix this as we are sure to come back to using your groundbreaking browser. Dont give up!

When my facebook chat keep disconnecting, I thought it was a facebook issue since it was doing so much changes for a while.

But now, I think the disconnection is due to Firefox rather than facebook. Especially when facebook tested my chat function through its back-end and couldn't figure out what went wrong. 3rd day on my Chrome now, everything works FLAWLESSLY!

I am also having the same problem, Firefox 3.6.6 hangs as soon as i click a link to download. I am running win 7 x64 with 8GB memory, fast CPU.

I installed the 4.0 beta 1 version, guess what: SAME PROBLEM

as many said, goodbye Firefox, i am switching also to Chrome.

UNBELIEVABLE how Mozilla is Not responding to all of us. they either don't have a clue what is causing this or they don't care. either way they will lose a lot of loyal follower if they don't fix this fast. it is a shame all my book marks etc. having to transfer to another browser, but what can we do?

Same problem for me on XP SP3 with FF 3.6.6 and 3.6.4. I have lost many hours of work this week trying everything: disabling extensions, creating new profile, uninstalling completely and reinstalling, testing by running in safe mode, clearing all history, basically everything in the Mozilla troubleshooting.

Ready to use Chrome, no plans to use IE.

More generally: prefer simplicity over feature-packed instability.

I have the same problem. It doesn't seem to matter what website I am on: msn, facebook, google, you get the picture. Or if I try to open another window. Firefox is not responding. The only way to get things accomplished is to start my task manager and shut down the window that way.

Very discouraging.

I came here hoping there was a patch or some suggestions from mozilla, but it appears to not be so. Very disappointing.
