How do I remove C:\Users\owner\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\e8n79j71.default\frequencyCap.json? It is forcing my scans on antivirus to stop.

After this happened first time, I removed Firefox. Ran ESET antivirus 8.0. All went well until this file was scanned. I believe I need to remove this before I can reinstall Firefox. I am not too adept at this so please explain. Thanks

When I look at that file on my system, it's just an empty pair of curly brackets:

{}

However, it seems to be for recording some kind of statistics about the "new tab page" (for example, how often did you view a sponsored tile).

Why is your antivirus stopping on that file? Does it mention what it thinks is wrong there?

Anyway, you could try just deleting it from the file system. Select and copy the following path:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\e8n79j71.default\

Then paste that into the Start menu search box and press Enter to launch that folder. Then right-click > Delete the unwanted file.

Does that let ESET get on with its business?

I tried this before and again just now. I get: Windows cannot find.....Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Checked name is ok. ESET just stops and does not give reason at this point. I am awaiting a response from ESET support. Thanks for your response.

What if you try this part, does this folder exist:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\

jscher2000--It went to Profiles folder with no file size noted. When I opened that it was the e8n79j71.default folder with no file size noted. In it were 7 folders with no file sizes noted then _CACHE_CLEAN_ 12/8/2015 1K then 2 free viewer files directoryLinks and frequencyCap from 3/15/2016 7am 3K and 1K resp. Should I delete this whole Profiles folder?

cor-el----Sorry there was a page of codes that I do not understand. When I did the search there were no results. Thank you for the response, though.

Hi Barbara1275, you can delete the folder if you like. Firefox will start a new one.

IMPORTANT: For anyone reading, this applies to the folder under "Local" and not under "Roaming". The folder under "Roaming" has your bookmarks, saved passwords, and other valuable Firefox data. But the one under "Local" is basically like a temp folder.

Hi Coconut_from_Russia, the poster already removed Firefox, and please do not recommend mystery executables.
