For a While now Mozila has been constantly crashing on me, Specifically "Firefox plugin content (Shockwave flash) quit unexpectedly. I've updated to the most recent version of firefox and flash as well as uninstalled and reinstalled on multiple occasions, and I still continue to get crashes (this has been going on for well over months) Firefox is my default browser, but I've noticed that I have not had these Shockwave errors on Safari nor Chrome.

Here are some of my Crash reports if that will help. Any help is appreciated!

Use this link to check that your plugins are up-to-date. If any are listed as unknown or research, do not worry about them.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Are there instructions for Mac users? And are there and pros/cons in disabling these plugins?

Thank you though for the response! Still have the plugin failures though

Try again, what FredMcd mentioned above.

Whoops clicked on the wrong link, Thanks Everything seemed to be updated including plugins, but I shall try the disabled hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin for a week and hope it fixes the problem.

Could you clarify what exactly disabling it does?/ What is suppose to do normally?

Thanks!

The protected mode note & temporary woorkaround by Adobe was only relating to Windows, and in fact only Windows after WIndows XP. Our own main help article's will normally display the correct edition for your OS etc

If for instance you look at

You should see the Mac version and have a selector on the left top edge to see other versions. They are slightly different.

Hardware acceleration is a rather complicated subject, but basically it is used to try to speed up certain actions. Normally it is turned on but in some instances especially if there are issues with graphics drivers or use of FlashPlayer it actually helps to turn it off. Obviously if you crash only with hardware acceleration turned on, and changing graphics drivers does not help then it needs to be turned off.

So it didn't seem to solve my problem.

Got the same "Firefox Plugin Content (Shockwave Flash) quit unexpectedly." twice today.

Is there anything else I could do?

It would be worth trying Firefox's safemode to see if that helped or gave a different set of Crash Signatures.

The bugs Fred has highlighted as related have been reported relatively recently and we may soon get some further progress or clues from them. I do note that one of those Bug 1162024 is apparently specific to Mac s and it appears Fx46 is unaffected.

By no means a proper solution, but you could try another version of Firefox. You already have multiple bowsers. If you install Firefox Developer Edition (DE) that by default installs as separate additional browser, with its own separate Firefox profile. (Fx46 beta - a bit more complicated to install)

DE does have one interesting experimental feature that is optional but turned on by default: Multi mode (e10s). That feature currently can cause issues with breaking some addons, or being incompatible with touchscreens for instance. The e10s feature often allows single tabs to crash and be restarted without needing to restart the whole browser. A cool feature. When it is finished it will make Firefox faster and better.
