That sounds like an extension compatibility issue.

Could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode to see whether that bypasses the problem? More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You didn't mention your desktop OS, so:

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Opt key while starting Firefox

A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Does Firefox start?

Actually, based on further research, you may need to do a clean reinstall of Firefox. But please mention your OS since the steps are long and vary between Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I'll go ahead and post the steps for Windows. If you don't use Windows, please ignore this.

Do not uninstall Firefox.

(1) Download a full installer for Firefox 32 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Rename the Mozilla Firefox program folder

64-bit Windows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

32-bit Windows:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(3) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does Firefox start and stay up?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • OldFirefox\Plugins
  • OldFirefox\browser\plugins

This may help some, but not all. I open Firefox in a sandbox (Sandboxie 4.12 (32bit - www.sandboxie.com) for better security.

Lately after an update of Firefox in Win 7 Pro , if I use a quick launch or start menu icon tto launch FF , it will open, but when I want to send an email page from my Eudora 7 email to Firefox, I will get the Error: Platform version ..... incompatibility error. The problem also occurs if I click an email link to open a browser tab.

The only way I have been able to get Firefox to open pages from my email client or be able to send an email to the browser without the incompatibility error is by starting Firefox from the Sandboxie menu by selecting Default Sandbox and "Run Web Browser .

So it appears that there might be a glitch in the shortcuts after the upgrade of Firefox. This also happened the last time on the upgrade from 32.0.1 to 32.0.2. If I recall correctly, it may get resolved after a reboot, but I have not yet had time to reboot today.

Edited: I just rebooted and that resolved the problem this time, as it did last time there was a FF update.

Furthermore, and this may or may not be related, when I try to start FF using the normal shortcuts, it asks me if I want to make FF the default browser. I have been using FF as my default browser for years, and have never changed that setting, so there may be a problem with the upgrade that is causing it.
