Not Syncing Bookmarks unless Name Changes
I have bookmarks syncing between three machines running: Kubuntu 13.04, Windows 7, and Windows 8. I'm updating some of those bookmarks routinely (for webcomics I'm reading and other archived media), but Sync does not update the bookmarks on my other two machines unless I change the bookmark's name or the location. Since many websites use the same title for every page, (and the title becomes the default bookmark name), this is an issue. Is there a way to change this setting? If not, should I file my issue as a bug report or a feature request?

Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.
Meghraj,
Since the problem concerns syncing on multiple machines, I'm not sure how your solution applies. As stated, I have three different machines running on three different operating systems, and the sync issue occurs (in both directions) regardless of which machine I'm on.
Are you recommending I do a clean reinstall on all three machines (with their three different operating systems)? Or are you also recommending I create a new ("clean") sync account? At this time I have no reason to believe any of these installs have become corrupted. Do you have a specific reason to think otherwise, or is this a general-purpose fix?
Thanks.
Do you have an example URL or website where we can check that out?
Try the webcomic Questionable Content: for instance, comic 2542 and comic 2548 . (I get the same issue with other pages, but it seems like the identical title text is the determining factor.)
Here's how to replicate the problem: save one of the two links (say, 2542) and sync your bookmarks. After making sure sync is completed, replace the bookmark (2542) with the other link (2548). It's important that the new bookmark appear in the same position as the old one: the problem doesn't seem to occur unless the bookmark list looks identical after replacement.
From my (VERY informal) tests, behavior following bookmark replacement depends on the number of syncs which take place. With the first sync after replacement the link is not updated on my other machines (so I have 2548 on the machine I changed but 2542 on the other two machines). At some point later (maybe the very next sync, but possibly only after I make changes to another machine's bookmarks) the new link (2548) is been replaced by the old one (2542) on all machines.
Thanks for looking into this.
