WHY does Firefox repeatedly open multiple copies of tabs that are already open??? Yesterday I cleared the history, removed the program & reinstalled. Didn’t help. Some tabs are ones I had months ago but don't need now. They keep appearing. HELP, please!

The problem started several months ago, after I downloaded a new version of the program. Two updates ago, I think. The repeat tabs open multiple times during the day. Sometimes they appear hours after I've closed them--sometimes just minutes later.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Not helpful. Didn't work. I deleted the files (which were not in a Profile folder, by the way). Then quit and restarted Firefox. Within a few minutes, the duplicate tabs were back.

I searched C:\ for the files again to delete them again. But there are no sessionstore files right now.

Am going now to restart the computer, just in case that would actually help. Not holding my breath.

Well, as expected, restarting had no effect. Multiple tabs still bugging me. And a new search found no new sessionstore files to delete.

Maybe I should just download Safari.

Any other suggestions, before I do that?

The pound signs / hash marks ("##") denote digits, you don't have to search your entire hard drive, just look in your current Firefox profile as you already had.

Type about:support into the location bar, then click on "Open Containing Folder".

After opening the containing folder, close Firefox (File > Exit) and make sure Firefox is down through the "Processes" tab of the Windows Task Manager, Refresh the list with Ctrl+F5, before deleting those files.
