My google homepage will not load...nor can I reach google.com...or search on google.

Getting the following error message.........

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.google.com/search?

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.google.com

The dnsserver returned:

   Timeout

This means that:

The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.

It is possible you have malware mis directing your search attempts, and that the false sites are then generating alerts. You are going to need to do scans for malware and then fix the damage.

Please meanwhile take care if you get any unsolicited security advice. You may now receive fake security warnings or scams.

If you are lucky any current security software if updated may fix the problem for you.

There have been a few posts about this today, it appears to be due to problems with the DNS servers that you are using either not directing to or blocking Google.

You can change the DNS servers from those that your ISP uses to one of the free DNS servers. One option is to use the OpenDNS servers, for details see http://www.opendns.com/

Another DNS service you can try is the Google Public DNS servers which are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Just recently I began having problems with not being able to log into google.com. I can get to other websites without any problems.

Full checking has been completed for virus, spyware and malware (this system is so clean it squeaks!).

I have run a trace route (tracert www.google.com) and it successfully reaches Google. Any suggestions?

The timeout message I am getting is: The connection has timed out The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

If I run a tracert on google.com (or just a simple ping) I get 209.85.143.104 have you tried typing that direct into your location bar.

All the AV checks are only as good as the heuristics or info held, and no single check will find everything, sometimes none of them will initially identify a new threat.

You may do better if you start a new thread of your own, it is more likely to get noticed and answered, rather than in an older thread.
