Multiple pop and Imap accounts

I have a mix of Imap and pop accounts that all through the use of rules put the mail in a single Imap inbox. When I reply to any of the emails Thunderbird uses that inbox's address and not the original senders address. Outlook was able to decide which account was to do the replying but that may be because all were pop accounts. So for example if I send from [email protected] any reply to that will go into [email protected]'s inbox along with all of the emails. If I need to continue the conversation what I want to do is to reply using [email protected] address but instead it uses [email protected]. This is particularly annoying with the pop boxes. Am I being obtuse or is it beyond Thunderbird.

Any help will be appreciated as I'm confusing the hell out of people switching identities.

My first reaction would be that combining incoming messages into one Inbox seems to be working against you. Perhaps whatever problem you're addressing by doing this could be tackled some other way.

I'd also comment that using the Inbox in an IMAP-connected account seems a slightly odd choice, as you're generating a lot of upload and download traffic in doing this.

I move messages into many different folders and occasionally hit this same problem. I use three different add-ons to help manage the business of choosing an appropriate "from:" identity, though the third of these probably won't be useful to you.

When I used Outlook all the email accounts were pop. Then one of the mail domains I used was migrated to Imap and outlook refused to work so ever since I've been trying to make T work the way outlook did. And I use the Imap server as a sort of backup as the pop boxes autodelete. I do sort the mail into folders but thank you for the suggestions I will give them a try and report back
