I want to direct my email to Thunderbird
I have a domain on 123-reg and the name servers point to wordpress where the website is hosted. When I set up my website (a business one) I created an email using gmail as the client. Everything went well and the email was [email protected]. I received emails and it was all great. A few months ago I relaised I'd not received an email for a long time. It's only a quiet website and maybe shoot 2 or three weddings a year so it wasn't out of the ordinary to go long patches of time without an email. It had been about a year though, so I started to worry a little. I tested it by sending an email from another account and I never received it. I tried sending one but it never arrived. All this time I can access the email inbox on gmail. I decided that I need to sort this out and figured I would direct the emails to Thunderbird because I have my other website dedicated email already on it and could simply add another partition. This is where the problems start. I've set up the IMAP details and it times out when I set them up from 123-reg. It times out when I set them up from photofairground.co.uk and it won't log in when I direct them from gmail.com. I feel as though it's like no-one knows where my email is held. I think it's with google, but I can't be sure. I'm a real novice at this and need it explained very clearly. I've tried updating MX records and nothing has worked. 123-reg are asking me to redirect the nameservers, but I think that will stop my website working. What I would like to know is this: Do I set up the IMAP details for 123-reg, wordpress or gmail?
Ok, I've changed the portal from 993 to 143 which is the same as my other email addresses I have through Thunderbird. I can now send emails but they won't save to the sent file and I still can't receive them. I really need some help on this and it's much appreciated. Matt

wordpress hosting do not do email hence why you set it up to use gmail, so email settings will be gmail. If you are receiving mail and can view/read emails via gmail account using a browser then the emails are at least arriving on the gmail server.
Password = same one you use to access that gmail webmail account via browser.

after making sure the webmail account settings have got imap selected. In Thunderbird:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server : imap.gmail.com Port: 993 Username = full email address eg: matt at photofairground dot co dot uk Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2
Note: Outgoing Alternative Port: 587 if using Connection Security: STARTTLS
when first connecting you may be directed to logon at gmail.
Hiya, thanks for this help, I really do appreciate it. You're the first person that actually has any slight idea of what's going on! Just to be clear, I'm not receiving any emails at all. I did manage to send one through Thunderbird yesterday, but it wouldn't then save to the sent folder. I think it went through the servers of my other email I have set up on there. I've made all the changes you mentioned and I think I have to wait now?
In my haste and frustration yesterday I deleted my G Suite and now I have to set it all up again. Google have asked me to direct the MX records to there settings. Should I do that or direct them somewhere else? I would have thought I do given that it seems to me that Thunderbird are simply accessing G-Suite and fetching the emails from there to me. I've got to bloody pay for it now as well. Will I be able to cancel the chargeable G Suite once this is set up, do you know?
Thanks once again. Matt
I don't have an actual inbox on the client, have I pressed a button that I shouldn't have?
re : Google have asked me to direct the MX records yes they are correct.

Hi thanks for everything, It looks like the details on wordpress were wrong. I've updated them and started receiving them through gmail, but not through Thunderbird. I might just delete that and knock it on the head. At least I'm receiving them now. It just means I'll have to pay £3 a month to get them :-(
Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
