Please restore the java plug-in to the 'allow' list rather than just blocking all java plugin lower than whatever firefox decides. Even if the plugin versions are not stable or secure, they may be necessary for certain web based applications to continue to function. Right now, we are unable to do any editing because the editor requires java 6. Firefox really should not be in the business of deciding what java plugins should be blocked. Advising, encouraging updates, yes, but not blocking. There is always a reason for folks to need to continue using older versions. Sometimes money is a factor, especially in today's economy. Thank you for considering this.

The older vulnerable Java Plugin version are click to play activation.

Mozilla does not put Plugins on blocklist simply because it was a older version but due to serious security and or stability issues.

The Java Plugin has been quite vulnerable for a time.

For example with Flash Player there was no versions added to blocklist between Mar 2013 and Dec 2014 because the security concerns in Flash Player Plugin then wee not severe enough to warrant adding versions to list for click to play activation. In December 2014 and on many people came here and at independent forums.mozillazine.org wondering why their old version of Flash from early 2013 was set to click to play because they never bothered to keep their Flash Player updated and secure. Almost all versions of Flash Player have been affected by critical vulnerabilities since Dec 2014 unfortunately.

I am trying to install java 6 update 31 on firefox. I have installed java 6 but it will not appear in the plug-ins list. According to the block list, it is supposed to be click to activate. But I cannot even get the plug in installed to the firefox. Do I need to install the java 6 somewhere specific?

We have a web-based CMS with an editor that requires java6 to run. This is why I am trying to install java 6 (jre and jdk) for firefox but it never shows up in the plugin list. If it doesn't show up, it isn't even a click to activate option. Is there a specific location that java should be installed?

I downloaded java 7 u45 and that seemed to be sufficient. I was able to have the java plug in visible and usable. You can close this.
