Firefox 38.0.1 changed new page behavior
I have a page with all the links I like to use; I've been using it for years. Each link on the page spawns a new page (target="_blank"). All of a sudden the new pages come up with nothing but a non-editable address bar... no menu bar, no search field, no toolbars. That's not the way new page links have ever behaved and I want them to continue to behave the way they've always worked.
I have to say, I'm really tired of the Firefox development team deciding to change the behavior of things and make it a requirement that i spend a couple hours or more finding out what they've done, why they've done it, and how to fix it. Y'all seem to think that every time you come up with a marvelous idea we're all supposed to just love it and the idea that we might not is unthinkable to you.

Sounds that you experience this bug that happens when you are running Firefox in Private Browsing mode and you open links in a new window.
- bug 1166066 - Firefox 38 regression: link in private window with target="_blank" opens window with no tabs/toolbars/menus (bug1166066)
cor-el,
Thanks much... that seems to be the issue I'm having. Reviewing the bug documentation, it seems the development team has it well in hand and it'll be corrected in a release in the not-too-distant future. As a technical writer, I tend to be a bug magnet <grin>.

Hello!
Please take a look at my screenshot. We have a settings page that will allow you to decide what the new tab button will do

To access the settings in the URL bar. Enter about:preferences#general and hit enter from there you will be in the General Settings area. From there follow my image highlighting and that will allow you to control the settings for Tabs.
When I open a new tab. This is what I see: http://prntscr.com/78yjo1

Unfortunately, it's not new tab behavior that I have an issue with. It's new page behavior. I have Open new windows in a new tab instead unchecked.

Possible workarounds: (1) use Options/Preferences > General: "Open new windows in a new tab instead" (2) Shift+click links to open in a new window with the standard features or use the right-click context menu.
You can modify dom.disable_window_open_feature prefs and change their value to true to prevent a website from disabling toolbars and scroll bars in a pop-up window
