Why won't Firefox preview iTunes songs - or play them - WITHOUT opening iTunes?

I used to use Chrome, but it ate up too much processing speed, so I uninstalled and am now using Firefox. There is a music-related site I'm on all the time, where I can put music files in a Queue and then play them through the browser. This wasn't a problem when I was using Chrome, or IE for that matter, but now that I'm using Firefox and I try the same thing, I get the following message:

"Your browser cannot play the iTunes preview file format. Would you like to open the album in iTunes?"

NO I DO NOT!!!

Why is this happening and what can I do to fix this issue to where I CAN listen to music THROUGH Firefox and WITHOUT having to open iTunes?

If you have QuickTime installed the plugin by default will play the mp3 file, but this may not apply to the site you are using.
