When I am in Firefox and open the tab it goes to a website with ads. At the bottom right it says it is a Conduit Product, Pilot Version. It has a search box that takes you to a Bing search. It says Results by bing at the top right.

At the top it has a bar with Web, Images, Video, News, Movie with a pull down on More. (to look like a typical toolbar). An ad for a Flash Player comes up most often and it asks to access your computer.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

This may be better than doing a Reset, which will require you to reinstall all your extensions - but the Reset is a quicker and easier method.

Looks like you have Installl Converter Community Toolbar 3.20.0.4 installed. Community Toolbar sure sounds to me like something from Conduit to me.

I suggest that you open the Addons Manager and uninstall / remove that extension. Beyond that, due my being unfamiliar with Mac OSX I don't know what it is called, but on Windows PC's it is necessary to go into the Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs and uninstall the Conduit program from there, too. Although the name may not be Conduit, my advice is to uninstall anything that you don't remember specifically installing.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

Rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.

Firefox 24 has been released, so you can update to that version.
