What the title says. While I was doing school work my session crashed and I lost all of my work. Upon reopening Firefox I was told my browser had installed the latest update for Windows. I then checked my crash logs and saw my session had crashed and Firefox had installed the update. Why could have this been? I would like a solution to this to ensure this doesn't haven't happen again. Thanks.

Honestly that's a horrible situation that drives all of us mad. From the developers who work hard on the Firefox code to us, the support helpers. And most definitely the users who are having to deal with data loss at the absolute worst possible moment.

Did the crash wipe out a long essay you were working on? To prevent that from happening again, look at the addons I linked below. They can save large amounts of text when your writing a essay or article.

I have 2 addon ideas for you that could help save your work: Textarea Cache https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/textarea-cache/ This add-on will save automatically the content in textarea or WYSIWYG editor when user is typing. User can recover the saved texts in the cache panel, even the tab or the window is closed unexpectedly.

And possibly: Tab Session Manager https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-session-manager/ Save and restore the state of windows and tabs. It also supports automatic saving and cloud sync.

I don't usually like using Tab management addons because they can convert you into a person who opens a ton of tabs (50 to 100+). But if you keep your tab count low, this addon will definitely help you out in crash situations. And it should help save text that you would enter in textareas just like the Textarea Cache addon.

Were you using Blackboard at the time? I remember it causing crashes over the years in Firefox & causing all sorts of crazy glitches in all the browsers. But I really hope its better now.

We can look at your crash report to try to get an idea of what caused it. Open about:crashes in your url bar. Then click on that exact crash report so that it gets uploaded to Mozilla's crash site. Then copy the link for the crash report & paste it here. It will look something like this: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/64c69203-8409-4514-9954-295f50240420

Then we can click on the Bugzilla tab on the report & see if a bug is linked there. That bug can give us an idea why your crash happened.

@noahSUMO I run 3 addons, EFF's Privacy Badger, CanvasBlocker, and Adblocker Ultimate. I did not get a message at all about the crash, my program simply crashed, I reopened it, and it said an update had finished installing.

You don't see any recent crash reports in about:crashes?

I did, but all it said was a report was attempted to be created.
