Dear Mozilla Community,

I would like to know when Firefox will be dropping Windows 7 support? I readed on some websites that Google Chrome will be dropped support for Windows 7 in 15 January 2022 year so I would like to know if there are any plans by Mozilla Developers to drop support for Windows 7?

I don't have computers with Windows 7 but my friends asked me about this because they know that I am active community member of Mozilla but I can't answer because I don't know so this is why I asked you today about this.

Yours faithfully, Piotr

Technically, support has already been dropped. But if you have any questions or problems, we will try to help.

I don't have problem because like I said I don't have computer with Windows 7. I asked you because my friends have this operating system and asked me about it.

I found this: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/88.0.1/system-requirements/

In your system requirements I can see "Windows 7" so you still support it. When Mozilla Firefox will be not get any updates for Windows 7 OS?

Hi Piotr, I have not heard of any plans to stop supporting Windows 7. I am not aware of any technical differences between Windows 7 and 10 that would make it hard to keep supporting both, but it's not something I research so perhaps I've missed something. More likely the decision would be driven by the cost of supporting different OS themes (a lot of the code for theming is different for Windows 7 versus newer versions). Since Windows 7 support survived the giant UI rewrite coming in Firefox 89, I guess that cost is still considered acceptable.

It is very strange that we don't have end of support date for Windows 7. It is mean that Windows7 will be supported by Mozilla Developers on all time?

They aren't saying that either. Maybe they are too busy to worry about it right now.

Okay so I know now that Mozilla Developers doesn't have plan to stop make new version of Firefox to Windows 7 so this will be still supported OS.

Can confirm this information someone from Mozilla Developers? I only now have information from community users.

Hi Peter, there's no official info. According to stats, currently about 20% of Firefox users use Win7. I don't think the support can be ended until it drops below 5%.

We've supported WinXP & Vista 2 or 3 years longer than Chrome so I wouldn't expect any announcements very soon.
