thunderbird change's user name when i keep name and password. it puts a g in front of email name. if email name was day@this, when i next use it, it has been changed to gday@this. tree@this will be changed to gtree@this. makes it really hard. i can receive mail at tree@this,,, i just can not send as my used name for sending is automatically changed.

Chosen solution

i deleted thunderbird from windows and did new install. i happened to have thunderbird38 so i used it. when i put in my att.net accounts it also changed my servers names from pop.att.yahoo.net to inbound.att.net, and outbound was changed also. so far no problems except to update. att, and yahoo seem to be going through separation anxiety problems, an i got caught in the mess. still dont know where the g came from. when i figure out how to mark this solved, i will do so.

Never heard of anyone with that sort of issue before, try one of the following:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

i have no add-ons in Thunderbird. my problem starts with password manager. i can get e-mail during session unless i use PM to save name. i tried with Thunderbird in safe mode, XP in safe mode then both in safe mode. i check the box remember password, a g is put in front of my name in save password, and i cant get mail. very strange. im thinking corrupt password folder, or Thunderbird may need reinstall. passwords in mozilla browser work just fine.
