I got a new iMac at Christmas & now am receiving pop up box at least twice a day saying "unable to update software. A recommended security & stability update is available, but you do not have the systems permission to install it". I have called Apple Support & they say this has to be handled by Mozilla Support. I've tried completely uninstalling Firefox & then downloading the latest version. This solved the problem for about 5 days, then the messages came back. Can you help me? Thank you.

Chosen solution

Open that Firefox disk image file and then drag Firefox program in the Applications folder on your hard drive. Do not double click Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the dmg folder. Any luck ?

Hello valygirl, please try one more time follow the next steps:

1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html (full dmg package)

2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.

3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

Hello again, I have done what you suggested & now can't get on Firefox at all. I have it downloaded & when I click on it, it opens a disk image at the top right corner of my screen. When I click on that, I just get my applications folder box. Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thank you!

Yes, that worked & I am able to use Firefox. So far I haven't received any "unable to update messages". I have the Firefox orange & blue globe icon down at the botton of my screen with my other icons. However, I have this orange Firefox disc sitting in the right top corner of my screen. How can I get rid of that? Thanks so much for all your help!
