My inbox says there are 27 unread emails and I don't have ANY unread emails. Why is this happening?

I have checked almost every folder under my inbox and don't show any unread emails anywhere. Yet next to my Inbox in parenthesis it says (27). When new emails are downloaded, it changes. This email is on my desktop and I'm running Windows 7. The problem started last week when it was saying this: Inbox (1) and there were no unread emails. thank you for any help!

Have you tried going to View|Folders|Unread ?

And then View|Threads|Unread ?

Oh no! I did find the unread messages and deleted them. Somehow, it deleted all my messages and now I can't find any of the messages that were in my inbox. This is my work email and I can't lose hundreds of emails! I thought they were in my trash folder, but when I moved them from the trash to inbox, it turned out to be just the spam emails. Help!

Did you undo View|Folders|Unread  ?

To change it back to View|Folders|All ?
