I was moving an email into a local folder and it failed with the following message.

"The messages could not be moved or copied to folder 'ECHE550-Fa24 on Local Folders' because writing to folder failed. To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, and then choose Compact Folders, and then try again."

Some emails would move in, some would give this error.

Other folders were not affected, so it is not a limit on disk size I think.

I tried to empty trash, that did not work. I do not want to zip my local folders.

I tried to rebuild the msf summary for the folder, that did not work.

Possible workaround:

  1. Numbered list item I made a new local folder.
  2. The problematic messages could be moved into the new folder.
  3. All the email from the old folder could be moved into the new folder.
  4. The old damaged folder (now empty) was deleted.
  5. The new folder was renamed.

This has happened to me now twice...

I have my local folders in a OneDrive folder so maybe that is causing trouble? BTW, our default OneDrive configuration keeps versions forever so all my local folders and nearly every version gets backed up. 10 GB of mail went to 4 TB, lol.

Compacting the folders does not zip the files - it removes blank space from the data files and is a necessary maintenance function of TB.

I think your second post says that the problem is resolved?
