Why does Firefox still use so much energy/battery on Mac? I even tried the beta FF55 which is supposed to be so efficient but it too is a battery hog.

I want to use FF but can't when it eats laptop power so much. It can't be as efficient as Safari but why so energy inefficient?

Try : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-slow-how-make-it-faster & https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-many-cpu-resources-how-fix

Not enough info came with your question. No plug-in/Extension details as these effect resources also.

I tried all those fixes (safe mode etc). Same problem. FF just uses too much energy on Mac compared to Safari - ratio like 10 to 1. This is based on Activity Monitor and accounts for all the possible sub-processes that hide energy and CPU hogging. Chrome not as bad nor Opera. I was an original adaptor of FF when it first came out but the emphasis on speed over efficiency is wrong approach. The one moment of fast page loading is nothing compared to hours of battery drain when you use FF. Back to Safari.

Can you see the performance by the app in your Activity Monitor? And paste a screenshot limited to Firefox statistics, so we can see exactly what we're dealing with.

There is no way to obtain a detailed stat on energy use (only CPU use). Take my word for it and the word of others (see other comments) the energy use is high on Mac. I see levels ranging from 41-115 in energy impact at least; when just a couple of windows are open basic browsing or playing of a short music stream (whereas doing the same thing on Safari shows around 12 or even just 4 level of energy impact).
