When I try to update Firefox, I am told that an update is available, but that I do not have the system permissions to install it. Contact your system administrator, or try from an account that has permission to install software on this computer." Help!
I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.6 and Firefox 3.6.13. This is a stand-alone desktop computer on a private wireless network. I am the system administrator. I set the system password and a separate master password. Both the file vault and the firewall are off.

- Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
- Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
- Install the new version that you have downloaded.
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
Thank you for your feedback. I am grateful. However, I cannot download the new version. When I try to do so, I am told that an update is available but that I do not have the system permissions to install it, that I should contact my system administrator or try from an account that has permission to install software on my computer.
