how do i know if i have the latest version of firefox and how do i get it if i don't
don't know how to tell what version of firefox i have, whether it is the latest version, and how to get the latest version if i don't already have it.

See if there is an update available by clicking Help > Check for Updates

Just click on Firefox and then click help. a menu will pop up It should say something like help-Get Started-Troubleshooting Information -Submit feedback -Restart with add ons disabled and last the one you need About Firefox click that one it will tell you what version you are running.
Since Firefox 6, Help>About just says Firefox is up to date, if it is. Instead you need to go to Help>About>TroubleShooting information.
MacOS Click on Firefox (upper left hand corner) Click on About.
